Miss Cecilia Bruce Kearns (d. 1924) dies as a result of a fall on the ice in front of the Winnipeg General Hospital. She attended the Winnipeg School of Art for several years and was a loyal supporter of both the Gallery and the school. She had a painting shown at the annual Ontario Society of Artists show in 1912 and again in 1914, and knew the Group of Seven. She gave up a career as an artist in order to serve as a nurse in World War I. Her experiences in the most dangerous lines overseas and her devotion made her especially helpful to “the broken men” who returned to Canada. She worked for the newly established Soldier’s Civil Service Re-establishment. At the time of her death she had had two pictures chosen for the RCA exhibition of 1923.
