Hugh Farquharson Osler, c. 1930. Winnipeg Art Gallery.
A separate managing body, led by Hugh Farquharson Osler (1881–1943), forms to plan the future of the Gallery.
Osler was a Toronto-born financier who had lived in Winnipeg since 1903 and served as Director of Great-West Life Assurance Company. In 1947, Osler’s estate would donate major 19th century canvases by Canadian masters Homer Watson (1855–1936) and George Reid (1860–1947) to the Gallery. The committee under Osler includes municipal politicians, professionals, and businessmen such as John A. McKerchar (1862–?), Charles Edward Simonite (1879–1973), John Blumberg (1892–1961), Ralph Humphreys Webb (1886–1945), George W. Northwood (1877–1959), Wesley McCurdy (1881–1961), and Harry Cowan Thompson (1879–1946).
