Catalogue, OK America, 1969. Winnipeg Art Gallery.

Another major exhibition of contemporary American art—the second in two years—opens at the WAG on February 7. The WAG-organized OK America represents the city’s first exhibition of Pop Art.

The exhibition includes the five artists who initiated and defined the Pop Art style through the mining of popular visual culture—billboards, hot dogs, Coca-Cola bottles, the comic strip, films—in their work. Artists include Roy Lichtenstein (1923–1997), Claes Oldenburg, James Rosenquist, Andy Warhol (1928–1987), and Tom Wesselmann (1931–2004). The works are borrowed from a variety of American public and private collectors.
