The WAG hosts an artist’s forum exploring the question of what role a public art gallery plays within its community.

Facilitated by Ralph Friesen, Winnipeg’s Cultural Development Officer for the Department of Canadian Heritage, the forum received input from practicing artists on how they perceived the Gallery’s role. Topics range from the need for increased public education, more support for emerging artists, the role of corporate sponsorship, the display of art from the WAG’s permanent collection and from lending institutions, the selection of work to be exhibited, and the possibility of cheaper drinks at openings.
