The first major retrospective exhibition of Winnipeg watercolourist and printmaker H. Valentine Fanshaw (1878–1940) opens on December 17.

Fanshaw was one of a number of British-born artists working in Winnipeg in the early 20th century who, along with Cyril Barraud (1877–1965), Alexander Musgrove (1882–1952), and W. J. Phillips (1884–1963), helped develop the city’s national reputation for technically outstanding etching, woodblock, and watercolour work.
