Elizabeth Wyn Wood's Linda, at left of entrance to the Gallery, c. 1932. Collection of the Winnipeg Art Gallery; Gift of Mr. Bertram Brooker. G-57-126

Bertram Brooker (1888–1955), a pioneer of abstract painting in Canada and a former resident of Portage la Prairie, Neepawa, and Winnipeg, donates Linda, a 1932 masterpiece of Canadian sculpture by the Toronto artist Elizabeth Wyn Wood (1903–1966).

The work would not be formally acquired by the Gallery until 1957, and its display in 1939 at the Gallery’s entrance spoke to the strong friendship between Brooker and then School of Art Principal Lionel LeMoine FitzGerald (1890–1956).
