One of Ferdinand Eckhardt’s (1902–1995) tasks is to review the controversy surrounding the Gallery’s 1936 acquisition of art from the collection of Winnipeg entrepreneur James G. T. Cleghorn (1844-1936). Eckhardt confirms what former Director Alvan Eastman maintained: that the collection contains no genuine Old Masters, but reflects misattribution not forgery.
