Catalogue, Eskimo Carvers of Keewatin, 1964. Winnipeg Art Gallery.
Due to lack of space at the WAG, Eskimo Carvers of Keewatin opens at the Winnipeg International Airport.
The exhibition, which includes 118 sculptures, represents the first WAG-organized Inuit exhibition. The exhibition catalogue, printed at Winnipeg’s Bulman Brothers Ltd., goes on to win a major award from the New York-based Printing Industries of America. In almost 50 years since this first show, some 140 exhibitions of Inuit art have been organized by the WAG, accompanied by over 40 scholarly catalogues and many smaller publications, confirming the Gallery’s place as leader in the study and presentation of Inuit art.
