The largest ever exhibition of work by Manitoba-raised, Toronto-based painter William Kurelek (1927–1977) opens at the WAG with over 500 people in attendance at the opening.

William Kurelek: The Messenger is a touring partnership between the WAG, Art Gallery of Hamilton, and Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. Over 80 works in the exhibition span three decades and reflect loans from across Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. The exhibition is accompanied by an interactive website, The exhibition in Winnipeg is also twinned with a WAG-organized cross-disciplinary symposium Out of Mind – Into Creativity: Mental Health and the Arts.
