The group photography exhibition Quotation: Re-presenting History opens. It explores contemporary artists mining the cannon of Western art history in their work.
Artists in the WAG-organized Quotation: Re-presenting History include Sorel Cohen, Evergon, Cindy Sherman, and David Buchan (1950–1994). Interestingly, one of Buchan’s works, A Problem in White II, replicates a well-known masterpiece at the WAG, the painting completed in 1900 by British artist Charles Orchardson (1873–1917) titled A Problem in White. Buchan’s photograph, which features WAG Curatorial Secretary Susan Swan as the model, joins the Orchardson in the WAG’s permanent collection in 1995.
