Cartographies: 14 Latin American Artists opens. 

The exhibition is curated by Brazilian curator Ivo Mesquita, former WAG Curator-in-Residence. It focuses on art produced in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Cuba, and Chile since 1980. Of the 14 artists in the exhibition, 10 travel to Winnipeg for the opening. Donors for the exhibition included The Rockefeller Foundation and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. In 1994 and 1995, Cartographies is shown at the National Gallery of Canada, Bronx Museum in New York, throughout Latin America, as well as at the Madrid gallery of La Caixa, one of the largest foundations in the world. In the fall of 1995, the WAG is awarded the International Council Museums (ICOM) Award for best exhibition.
