The exhibition Achieving the Modern: Canadian Abstract Painting and Design in the 1950s opens.

The exhibition is an innovative survey of not only modern art, but also modern decorative art and furniture. It includes work by 75 artists and 50 designers. The WAG-organized exhibition tours to the Confederation Centre for the Arts (Charlottetown), the Mendel Art Gallery (Saskatoon), Edmonton Art Gallery (today the Art Gallery of Alberta), and the Art Gallery of Windsor.
