The WAG receives a major donation of nearly 200 Inuit sculptures dating from 1900 to 1981from Ian Lindsay (1917–1995). Half the donation is made by Lindsay and the other half is purchased from Lindsay and donated to the WAG by the Volunteer Committee. George Swinton (1917–2002), artist, historian, and Inuit art collector, remarks of the Lindsay acquisition that it is “individually and collectively, the most interesting and valuable collection … which is still available.”
