The Gallery announces that 13th Winnipeg Show planned for November is cancelled, making the 12th instalment of the exhibition in 1970 the last Winnipeg Show.

The 1972 edition was cancelled after negotiations between the Manitoba branch of the Canadian Artists Representation (known by the acronym CAR/FAC today) and the WAG’s Women’s Committee reached an impasse on issues pertaining to entry and shipping fees traditionally borne by the artists and Gallery sales commission on work sold. CAR, an artist advocacy organization, was created by the London, Ontario, artist Jack Chambers (1931–1978) in 1967. To hear more about the beginnings of CAR/FAC in Winnipeg as told by Ted Howorth, printmaker and lecturer at the University of Manitoba School of Art, click the link below.
