Foggy on the exact date details, but I will always remember being invited to Saturday morning art classes at the WAG through my elementary school, Faraday. I was so nervous, but excited that I'd been invited, along with other school kids that loved art, to have this opportunity. I'll never forget the smells, of paints and pottery clay. I was like a kid in a candy store in this newly discovered world. I'll also never forget my instructor, Wanda Koop, who was not afraid to get down and dirty with our art, a kid in grown-up form, a true kindred spirit. Wanda would also take us on a tour of the inner gallery, behind the scenes. Showing us huge canvasses, sculptures, and anything that would cause us to gape in amazement. Then, afterwards, we'd return to our initial works, inspired, and proceed to create some more. Best time ever. When I visit the annual Through the Eyes of a Child exhibition I can't help but smile.
