I was the Exhibition Chairman of the Art Students' Club of the University of Manitoba School of Art. The Art School was located at the old Law Courts Building, very near to the Winnipeg Art Gallery, which was then located in a building now called the Archives Building, just across St. Mary Avenue from the Bay Parkade. In that same year the Art Gallery hosted a non-jury exhibition, called the Winnipeg Show. The following year it became a juried exhibition. The 'Women's Committee' of the WAG organised and ran the exhibition and the Art Students' Club did the majority of the unpacking, hanging and repacking of the work submitted for the exhibitions.
I had two pieces in the first exhibition and one in the second. As a young artist I was honoured to show in an exhibition with so many of the major Canadian visual artists of the time, who shipped their works to Winnipeg from all over the country. I think that those major exhibitions across the country were powerful contributors to the evolution of the visual arts in Canada.
